Places to visit in Dandeli

  • River Rafting in Dandeli: Located on the River Kali in the Western Ghats, Dandeli is one of the best places for white water rafting in the South. There are grade 2 and 3 rapids over a 12 kilometer stretch and are ideal for professionals as well as amateurs.

  • Kali Tiger Reserve: A paradise for wildlife lovers, Kali Tiger Reserve is located in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. It covers an area of 834.16 sq km and has been recognised as the second largest wildlife sanctuary in the state. Declared as the National Wildlife Sanctuary in 1956, it is home to a variety of flora and fauna including tigers, woodpeckers, hornbills, kingfishers, leopards, elephants, etc. It was renamed from Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary to Kali Tiger Reserve in 2015.

  • Supa Dam: The magnificent Supa Dam has been built over River Kali. The engineering marvel is an earthen dam with left bank spillway, stands 101 metres tall, has a length of 330 metres and a catchment area of over 1000 square kilometres. It has a power plant that generates about 100 MW of energy to supply electricity to the state.

  • Kulgi Nature Camp: Situated at Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, this is popular for tourist accommodation providing a comfortable stay whilst exploring the wildlife sanctuary.

  • Moulangi Falls: Moulangi Falls is formed by Moulangi River and is famous as a picnic spot. It is one of the few locations near the city that promote adventure and recreational activities like kayaking, boating, water rafting, etc. The natural jacuzzi is one of the most preferred activities that tourists visit the Moulangi Falls for.

  • Shivaji Fort: Built during the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shivaji Fort is one of the oldest forts in the state. Tourists visit this magnificent structure for its heritage value and the beautiful surroundings. The attraction is a favourite amongst trekkers, nature and history lovers.

  • Kayaking: Kayaking is one of the popular things to do in Dandeli.   • Sri Mallikarjuna Temple: Sri Mallikarjuna Temple is believed to be the oldest temple in the state. In fact, a stone inscription states that it was built in 1144 on land donated by King Jayakesha. The temple is of immense religious significance and the marvellous Kadamba style architecture also attracts tourists in large numbers.

  • Dandelappa Temple: Dandelappa Temple is dedicated to Lord Dandelappa, who served the Maharishi landlords till the end of his life. The city is said to have derived the name from the name of the deity. It is one of the oldest temples in the city surrounded by beautiful natural landscape. The temple has a divine vibe and gives a peek into the history and the culture of Dandeli. Many also believe that offering a prayer to Lord Dandelappa is very fruitful and all the wishes are fulfilled.

  • Jenukallu Gudda Sunset Point: This is another mesmerising place that is simply picture perfect. The Jenukallu Gudda sunset point is also called 'honey rock hillock' point, since 'Jenu?'means honey, 'Kallu' means stone and 'Gudda' means hill. You can view the sun slowly settle down from this location amidst the never ending valleys. You can also catch a glimpse of the entire Western hills. It is at a distance of approximately 17 kms from Yellapur. And from Magod falls, it is only 7 kms away. Pack some light snacks since nothing is available at this spot.
